Nothing went as planned this week, which is becoming its own kind of rhythm. Trust came off the frame and is ready for backing. I'm still building toward my 100% upcycled piece, one dye batch at a time. And Sweet Pea asked if I'd make something miniature to play alongside her Barbies, so I felted a tiny monster named Miso.

Trust, ready for backing

Trust came off the frame this week. My first rectangular composition, still on the backing fabric, ready to be cut out and mounted. Holding this piece feels different and opens up a world of possibilities. This new format is deepening my confidence in experimenting. I love how it’s turning out!

Weekly dyeing ritual

Still working toward my 100% upcycled piece, one batch at a time. This weekly ritual of dyeing textiles has become meditative. Preparing materials, mixing colors, submerging fabric, waiting. Its a weekly rhythm that I now crave. Slow systems building, week by week. Black is always the hardest color for me to dye, the hue leans grey or blue, but I’m getting closer!

Mesmerizing textures

The texture of upcycled textiles up close is mesmerizing. The salvaged fabric transformed, naturally dyed, and hand tufted imperfections are all so charming. This is the detail work that takes weeks, the elements that make each piece completely one of a kind.

Vintage tool from the 1970s

Tufting by hand with a vintage tool from the 1970s. This tool has completely transformed my practice in more ways than I can say, especially here off-grid. No electricity, no mechanization, no automation. The limitation became my solution, path and inspiration.

Elevate  25” x 32”

Elevate - cotton yarn + naturally-dyed upcycled textiles. This piece is part of my collection Both, At Once, currently showing at Storied Ground in Kahilu Gallery through February 28. [Bold is also in the show - last chance to see them this week!]

Sunshine in a bowl

Rainy days have inspired colorful meals that feel like sunshine in a bowl. Tofu, greens, bright vegetables, rich umami sauce. Eating color when the sky is gray fills me with joy. These bowls make me feel nourished and warm from the inside out.

Mini Miso, felted friend

My obsession with miniatures continues. Sweet Pea plays with her Barbies and asked if I would make something that suited me to play alongside her. So I felted this little monster, Miso. That booty though! Tiny, perfect and absolutely ridiculous.

Soothing ritual

This before and after is one of my favorite rituals. Washing fruit feels meditative. Fresh cold water, gentle scrubbing, deep appreciation for the bounty! I love showing myself and my family this love and care, the care of preparing food that will nourish us all week.

Ready for the week

After. Clean, displayed, ready to be enjoyed. I love how this simple act of washing and arranging fruit makes healthy eating feel effortless. It's there, it's beautiful, we reach for it. A kind of abundance that helps me see how many of my dreams, vision boards and wishes, we’ve actualized.

Largest papaya yet!

Sweet Pea getting down on the largest papaya yet! Watching her enjoy fresh fruit with this much enthusiasm never gets old. This papaya was massive and she demolished it.

Thanks for being here.

Happy belated Lunar New Year. I am wishing you a fantastic Fire Horse year, filled with shedding of limiting beliefs that no longer serve you and abundant transformations.

See you next Friday!

Love,

Coco
